I've removed some lines from this document because they do not seem sane any more. The other lines are published here... By the way, I'm not as much interested in such DIY things in the meantime, as I hope civilization will not collapse, and for me, the shortest way to success might be Mathematics & Writing & Luck... but some people might still find the following writing useful:
Árpád Fekete's economic advice to the poor
- drawing & writing skills are quite independent!
- humor & music works helped getting rich quick
- otherwise use good artisanal handicraft patterns
- categorize unused old stuff as resources or trash
1. The poor might need to combine work with enjoyments:
- Mathematics can be liked even if the world is not (Recreation)
- in some cases mind sports or competitive games are good ideas
- Politics or legally punishing criminals may be the shortest way
- watching opportunities of winning, communicating good ideas
- „spending less” is NOT always possible with family or sorrow
- in order to get rich quick, getting famous is usually also needed
- otherwise, ethical people might still hope for the Supernatural
2. There are already some paths with patterns we can follow:
- probably it's worth checking what smallholders and artisans do
- hobby cultures of making (origami, basketry, knitting) pay little
- crystal growing / houseplants may be easy after the know-how
- old handicrafts e.g. „Teophilus Presbyter - De diversis artibus”
- you may find good ideas in the environmental movement, too
- new cultures of making may use free (?) recycled raw materials
- list (semi-finished) raw materials and good model/pattern plans
- some people listen to something while working on such things
- maybe use plastic boxes to grow mushrooms or plant seedlings
3. Uniqueness may pay, as it adds extras by the brains:
- Arts, Toys&Puzzles may pay well except in crisis or big supply
- Toy/Puzzle Jewellery and other goods based on expired patents
- grotesque,bizarre,authentic Art in the Esoteric/Occultist market
- solution to ethical invention or innovation challenges of our era
- lone skilled artisans can make unique artifacts for superheroes
4. List of some possible projects (maybe fit to modern times):
- slippers, scarves, caps, hats, gloves, combs, suitcases, whistles
- horns, bows, arrows, fish trap, mousetrap, sharp stones, ropes
- whips, seals, masks, hand fans, bookbinding, decorative knots
- beer, candles, soaps, glue, potash, colored glass parts for mosaic
- mosaic designs by PC programming + recycled parts or buttons
- coats of the 'Jack of Plates' armoured fashion, maybe recycled
- boomerangs and other handful objects for throwing to targets
- musical instruments and other acoustical devices (rattles, siren)
- document destruction combined with paper recycling, securely
- plaster/other casting e.g. piggy bank-like document containers
- energy may be made by stationary bikes or DIY wind turbines
- implement eco-friendly 'Parabolic Solar Cooker' DIY designs
- PET bottles or other trash may be cut into strings, tapes / strips
- longer handles or extra routes may be added to pots and bowls
- beaded curtains, mosquito nets or insulators for window / door
- heating by old-style furnaces, tile stoves, greenhouses&mirrors
- 'ice houses'/stacks instead of fridges, chill barleycorn (no boil)
- Chess pieces by casting, Chess tables out of two kinds of strips
- slingshot, recycling hair, paper forming press with animal glue
- intarsia, bone carving, heraldry/logos, kites, mandala for aliens
- water purification, underwater tools, electricity storage/sparing
5. Recycled materials for further innovation (look around):
- white round bottoms of plastic yoghurt bottles/margarine boxes
- flat material of daily food product containers (one-color inside)
- tin/cans might be made of more kinds of metal; good to collect
- matchboxes,paper tea/shoe boxes, cassettes,closable containers
- tape/strip,wire/cable, drinking straws, razor blades, corks, pens
